Surrey Nature Center is looking to add a full-time Program Specialist to our team. Working within the Parks Department, the Surrey Nature Center provides nature-related programs to schools and the public with the goal of increasing awareness, appreciation, and stewardship of the Surrey Urban Forest.

The successful candidate will have experience working with school-age children, strong leadership abilities, sound knowledge of spatial learning and knowledge of local flora and fauna.

Responsibilities
As a Surrey Nature Center Program Specialist, you will:

  • Supervising the implementation of school programs and day camps
  • Assist in hiring, training, supervising and scheduling employees
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in both verbal and written formats
  • Develop new programming by applying your knowledge of environmental education, BC curriculum, and place-based learning
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with program participants, staff, the public and other stakeholders
  • Ensure that city policies and procedures are followed to maintain a high level of safety


Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a degree/diploma in recreation, or related field from an accredited post-secondary institution plus two years of progressively responsible experience in community service work or specialty area, including supervision, or equivalent acceptable combination of training and experience.


Licenses and certificates

  • Professional First Aid Certificate Level 1 or equivalent is acceptable.
  • Consent to disclose criminal record information.
  • High Five certificate or equivalent acceptable; Or the desire to obtain it.
