Applications are invited for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to begin in August 2026. Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent foreign degree in mathematics, applied mathematics or a closely related field. Postdoctoral experience strongly preferred. Successful candidates must demonstrate promise for developing and maintaining a strong program of externally funded research, teaching courses in the department at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and providing academic and professional services. Our department seeks candidates whose research develops and applies mathematical frameworks to understand challenging problems with societal or technological impact in areas such as life sciences, quantum systems, and engineering. We are particularly looking for candidates who use mathematically principled approaches to design and analyze new simulations and computational methodologies, including those related to data science, scientific machine learning, and optimization. Particularly interesting are candidates whose work can support RPI’s initiatives in quantitative research and education, or more broadly can align with the goals of the Institute for the Future of Computing. This position is part of a faculty recruitment group funded with support from the Simons Foundation designed to stimulate research in the basic sciences across New York State.
Applicants must submit a cover letter, CV, research and teaching statements, and at least four letters of recommendation, one of which addresses teaching potential, to MathJobs.Org. Applications received by October 31, 2025 will be considered first, and subsequent applications will continue to be accepted and evaluated while the position remains open.

This staffing range is provided as Rensselaer’s good faith estimate of the expected staffing range at the time of publication.
We welcome candidates who will bring diverse cultural, ethnic, national, and international perspectives to Rensselaer’s work and campus communities. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity and Race/Gender/Veterans/Disabilities Employer.
