Project Officer – Barriers and Biodiversity – East Yorkshire Rivers Trust

The chalk streams of East Yorkshire are the most northerly in Europe, and although they contain many unique ecosystems, they also face many threats.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Project Officer to build on the work carried out by the organization over recent years, with several projects underway and a number about to start. Projects are diverse and include reworking and habitat restoration, community engagement with schools and partner organizations and citizen science monitoring. The Project Officer will also support the Trust’s efforts to protect local wildlife by assisting with our mink monitoring and monitoring program and conducting water vole surveys.

The successful candidate will work with farmers, contractors, partner organisations, volunteers and other East Yorkshire Rivers Trust staff to deliver a fully funded program of work covering barriers to fish migration, Natural Flood Management (NFM) and river restoration projects. The Trust is also involved in wider wetland creation and restoration looking at ponds, bluffs and lakes.

This post is located within the EYRT area covering the River Hull catchment, the Gypsey Race, the West Wolds creeks and in the Derwent Catchment to the north.

The Project Officer will manage all aspects of projects, from inception to delivery (with support from the Operations Manager), ensuring they are delivered on time, on budget and to a high standard. Previous experience in delivering practical environmental projects, particularly those focused on habitats, is therefore preferred, but we will consider applications from candidates with relevant transferable skills and/or experience.

The Project Officer will seek to maximize project benefits and efficiencies through collaboration, working closely with other Trust staff, partners and key stakeholders across the watershed to identify additional funding and partnership opportunities. The project officer may be asked to attend talks and events to promote the work of the Fund.

The role will be home based but will work across the EYRT area. The role entails a high degree of hands-on outdoor work, project management, monitoring and evaluation and working with contractors while on site. The post holder will be flexible, with evening and weekend work. The post holder must work well alone and as part of a team of staff and volunteers. The mail carrier will need to be comfortable working outside in variable weather conditions.
