We have a fantastic opportunity to join a small, dedicated team that is making a massive transformation of the Great Fen landscape. The Wildlife Funds’ oldest living landscape, and one of its largest, has entered an exciting new phase – thanks to a new grant from the National Lottery Heritage Funds, we are returning arable land to wetlands, securing the missing link between two Fenland National Nature Reserves (Holme and Woodwalton Fens). We are also showcasing new wet farming practices which we hope will inspire change across peat farms nationally.

The successful candidate will have a pivotal role in delivering hard and soft landscaping and raising water levels to create hundreds of hectares of new wetland habitat. This will be done by managing large value contracts with specialist wetland civil engineers as well as providing hands-on management. The Project Officer role will work alongside the Project Manager to ensure the delivery and reporting of our comprehensive program of restoration works, whilst assisting with the management and monitoring of the organization (e.g. use of tractors and monitoring of protected species), and will also support the development of relationships with numerous partnerships across the Fenland region. The Project Officer will also be heavily involved in the planning and preparation of future works, for example assisting in the preparation of funding bids through quotations/tenders and planning the preparation of orders.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and friendly individual who can bring their existing experience in conservation, wetlands and contract management to the team and jump straight into a complex and exciting activity programme. They will be organized beginners and will enjoy the challenge of combining all the workflows to create something magical. Work experience and a can-do attitude are a must.
