We have a dynamic opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join FVRD as an Emergency Management Specialist. Reporting to the Director of Emergency Management, a typical week could include supporting the Emergency Management Division’s work plan, developing the Preparedness, Resilience, and Emergency Program (PREP), Disaster and Emergency Management (DEM) coordination, and leading Emergency Operations Center (EOC) training and exercises. You will also share on-call Duty Officer responsibilities, which include supporting the activation of the Emergency Operations Center and providing assistance services to evacuees. In our dynamic environment, your strong analytical and problem-solving skills will be key to success.



The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Post-secondary education in disaster and emergency management (DEM) and/or local government administration, plus several years of relevant experience in local government or an equivalent combination of training and experience;
  • Knowledge of local government policy and operations, DEM principles in practice and FireSmart principles.
  • Grant management and project management skills;
  • High proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly adapt to new software.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear reports, plans and correspondence.
  • Confident verbal and public relations skills, with the ability to deal effectively with elected officials, staff, volunteers, outside agencies, and the public;
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and maintain positive working relationships at all levels; and
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

The annual salary range for this exempt position is $75,506 – $86,715 and is complemented by a comprehensive and competitive benefits package.
