CC13083 Health and Fitness Manager
The Sports Development and Entertainment Department seeks to harness the power of sports to foster the best environment to enable individuals to achieve success.
Under the university’s sports brand – Pigeon team -We manage and organize a range of activities and aspire to create a world-leading multi-sport environment that caters to elite athletes, staff and students at the university and the local and regional community. Located in the inspiring £35 million Sports Training Village, the department offers a wide range of high quality sports activities, programmes, events, services and facilities catering for all ages and abilities.
In addition, we are recognized by UK Sport as one of only eight elite training centres, providing a training base for around 250 athletes at international level. This is an opportunity to become part of a professional and progressive organization at the forefront of sport, health and fitness. The Times has also just named the University of Bath as Sports University of the Year for 2026.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to be the leader of a dynamic team of health and fitness coaches, personal trainers and group exercise instructors working out of our recently renovated gym. Our fitness space is one of the largest in the South West and consists of 3 gyms plus an indoor cycling and group exercise studio.
The gym’s user mix includes students, athletes and members of the local community along with occasional training camps with professional sports teams. You will be tasked with nurturing an inspiring environment that enables users to get results while making it a rich and welcoming experience for all. As such, a passion for people and a desire to make every customer who visits special is paramount.

About you
Our ideal candidate must have:
- Extensive experience managing teams and working in a sports and fitness environment
- Recognized fitness instructor and personal trainer qualifications as well as a range of recognized group exercise qualifications, such as indoor cycling
- Significant demonstrable experience in financial and budget management
- Extensive customer service experience and training delivery experience
- Experience in a commercial environment and a proven track record in achieving service objectives.

More information
This is a full-time position, working 36.5 hours per week. Gym opening hours are Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 10.00pm, and 8.00am to 7.00pm on weekends.
You will be expected to do some shifts and therefore some morning, evening and weekend work will be required.
