Columbus Girls School is seeking to hire Graduate School Learning Specialist – Long Term Alternative To cover leave of absence starting from December 2025.

Position Summary: The Upper School Learning Specialist facilitates academic, behavioral, functional, social, and emotional support for students with diverse learning needs by developing learning strategies, organizing, and administering tests. The Learning Specialist provides individualized instruction and serves as a department-wide resource on the learning needs of parents and faculty. A learning specialist can identify learning needs, lead educational testing, interpret assessments, develop accommodation plans, and manage professional development in areas related to student achievement.

Main functions and responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of individual educational accommodation plans, including development, implementation, teaching, support, supervision and monitoring
  • Coordinating accommodations for standardized tests (PSAT 8/9, PSAT/NMSQT, ACT, SAT, AP), school-wide midyear and final exams
  • Identify the learning needs of struggling students to support classroom instruction
  • Instruct students in large groups, small groups, and individual settings in learning, organization, communication, and executive function
  • Manage support services at department level
  • Hold meetings with parents and faculty across grade levels and departments
  • Provide short-term intervention to students as needed
  • Attending meetings at the department and school levels
  • Work as a member of the Student Services and Learning Services teams
  • Serves as SSD for College Board and ACT to submit accommodation applications and administer tests for students with approved accommodations
  • Actively participating in the life of the school, including leading clubs and/or activities, supervising classrooms, and possibly coaching.
  • Actively participate in all faculty and staff meetings.
  • Possibility to serve as a faculty advisor for a group of 8-12 students, providing them with academic, social, and emotional support.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Be able to communicate clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Obtain comprehensive knowledge of learning styles and disabilities.
  • Have a comprehensive knowledge of specific teaching and learning strategies to address a range of academic difficulties.
  • Be current with specific knowledge and experience in the areas of differentiated learning theories and practices.
  • Be able to translate teachers’ teaching and learning strategies into concrete suggestions for classroom practice.
  • Be self-directed, and take initiative in fulfilling the responsibilities of the role.
