Senior Teaching Technician (Anatomy) at the University of Nottingham
The School of Life Sciences invites friendly, engaging and enthusiastic individuals to join our dedicated Technical Anatomy team. The successful candidate will become part of a small technical team within the Anatomy Suite, based in the School of Medicine (Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham), and will collaborate closely with technical, academic, administrative and clinical colleagues.
The position holder will provide high quality and timely support to the Anatomy Suite facilities, working with a high degree of independence. They will have primary responsibility for supporting all aspects of anatomical teaching and training for undergraduate and postgraduate learners, including surgical training courses, ensuring consistently high standards are delivered. Main duties will include the handling, movement and care of human cadaver specimens, as well as managing additional teaching and training resources. The position holder will also provide direct support to the Anatomy Suite Manager in the embalming process and preparation of processing materials, as required. Additional responsibilities include contributing to the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Anatomy Suite, including overseeing the monitoring and preservation of cadaver materials – such as whole cadavers, examined specimens, and museum pieces – and maintaining accurate and compliant documentation, including audit records. All work must be carried out in full compliance with the Human Tissue Act (2004) and all applicable laboratory health and safety regulations.
Applicants should have a strong basic knowledge of human anatomy and, ideally, previous experience in embalming and dissecting cadavers. Experience in a relevant technical or laboratory role is essential, with evidence of sophisticated organizational skills, excellent interpersonal communication, and IT proficiency. It is highly desirable to have a sound understanding of human tissue law, as is previous experience working within an anatomy suite (dissection room) or in a similar environment.
This position is offered on a permanent basis. Full-time working hours (36.25 hours per week). Job sharing arrangements may be considered.
