Senior Software Engineer – Platform

As a Senior Engineer in our Platform Engineering team, you will play a key role in helping drive multiple areas of the business forward over the next 12-18 months. We have a wide range of interesting problems to solve, including, but not limited to: · Maintaining and extending the Clojure-based GraphQL API that powers our website and mobile app, handling everything from registration and authentication, to credit card capture, order modification, transactional emailing, and much more.

• · Build tools that enable other teams to do their best work – for example, improving our CMS to expand the capabilities of our content editors, enhancing our CRM to enable our customer service team to quickly access the information they need to support our customers, and finding ways to automate manual and repetitive tasks to free up engineering time to work more

• · Create powerful integrations with third-party systems that power everything from our box packaging production line to our payment processing pipeline that handles millions of pounds of transactions each month

Best of all, we build all of this using Clojure’s powerful functional programming techniques.

The right person for this role will bring a combination of the following:

• · You are passionate about Clojure, and have at least one year of business experience in it or another functional language such as Haskell, Scala, or Elixir. Alternatively, you have a strong background in other languages ​​(JavaScript, Java, Ruby, Python, .NET, etc.), and are enthusiastic about learning Clojure.

• · You are friendly and easy to work with. You value cooperation and teamwork.

• · You have a proven track record of success in identifying and solving high-value business problems. · You are a strong communicator. You are familiar with the XY issue, and you are good at asking the right questions to get to the bottom of the problem.

• · Technology stack: Clojure(Script), MySQL, AWS, GitLab, GraphQL

We realize that you may not tick all the boxes. It’s a solid plus if you have commercial functional programming experience to offer, although it’s perfectly fine if you’re not a MySQL or GraphQL expert.
