Overview and responsibilities:

Are you interested in joining the team? At CBS News Streaming Network, we are looking for a Segment Producer to work in our New York City Broadcast Center! All applicants will be reviewed and considered for their current or near future opening.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Researches and produces compelling clips that incorporate quality audio, attractive graphics, and effective use of maps and signage that steal headlines
• Receives assignments and direction from executive producers and line producers to research and write questions for announcers for guest segments and exercise editorial judgment in selecting visual elements for segments
• Coordinate with broadcasters and reporters to inform them of the topic and inform them of the segment
• Works closely and coordinates with senior staff in the control room with the ability to add to the editorial process in a breaking and live news environment
• Exercises exemplary editorial skills: ability to recognize stories with high potential for compelling and comprehensive storytelling
• Works closely with senior staff on the editorial content of the show
• Pitches and develops clear, defined slide ideas with speed and accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Serves as an editorial contributor in the control room during assigned segments to ensure smooth on-air production
• Has detailed knowledge of the control room and practices proper etiquette
• Displays calm behavior in high pressure situations, including the control room
• Participates in daily editorial and production staff meetings
• Work with executive producers, line producers, and producers on standards, rights, licenses, editorial direction, and language for anchors, reporters, and on-screen graphics

Basic qualifications
• 5 years of experience working in a newsroom, preferably with copywriting experience for a national broadcaster, live broadcast, or cable news
• Background in journalism and television, including strong news judgment and critical thinking skills
• Well-developed knowledge of current events, politics and popular culture
• Up-to-date periodicals, including opinion articles
• Own and master daily international, national and political news
• Impeccable grammar and spelling, news writing experience and ability to pass the CBS News Comprehensive Digital Writing Test
• Master AP style and radio writing
• Detail driven and able to write calmly and efficiently in a fast-paced live television environment
• Be able to balance multiple tasks for regular programming as well as rolling breaking news coverage
• Ability to work well in a team environment
• Available to work all shifts including early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays as part of a regular rotation and as coverage needs require, as this is a 24-hour news network.

Additional information

Hiring Salary Range: $84,460.00 – $91,000.00.

The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington State and most other geographic areas. Starting pay for a successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market requirements, experience, training and education. Benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO, or, if applicable, as dictated by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
