salary: £25,750 – £27,295

We are looking for an employee committed to Natural Heritage to help protect and enhance our natural environment for future generations. As a Natural Heritage Officer, you will be uniquely placed to support the planning and implementation of nature conservation work, including securing a fundamental understanding of natural heritage across Scottish Wildlife Trust’s newest and largest wildlife reserve. About the role

You will work closely with the project team, and the post holder will undertake hands-on conservation and reserve management duties, carrying out standard reserve checks (including infrastructure access, fencing surveys and tree health checks) and delivering remedial works either directly or with contractors where required. The role will also develop and deliver public engagement activities and volunteering opportunities such as volunteer parties and citizen science events, to connect people to Inverbroom’s natural heritage.

About you

You will attend:

  • Relevant degree or N/SVQ level 3/4 or equivalent demonstrable experience relating to rural management.
  • Certified to NPTC/Lantra standards and experience with chainsaw maintenance, cross-cutting and small tree felling. CS 30 and 31 or desire to undergo qualification.
  • Certification to NPTC/Lantra standards and experience in cutting and brush cutting operations or willingness to undergo qualification. Certificate for trailer or all-terrain vehicle or willingness to undergo qualification.
  • Two years of planning and delivering practical conservation work.
  • Two years of volunteer supervision and management, including design and implementation of events and/or activities.
  • Demonstrable experience in the safe use and maintenance of hand and power tools.
  • Good understanding of land management for wildlife conservation.
  • Good natural history skills and knowledge of species and habitats found in Scotland.
  • Health and safety legislation/procedures relating to outdoor work.
