Columbus School for Girls (CSG) seeks a dynamic and visionary individual Middle school principal To lead and inspire our community of students, faculty, staff, and families in grades 6-8. The Middle School Principal serves as a key member of the senior administrative team and reports directly to the School Principal. The ideal candidate is an experienced instructional leader who understands the developmental needs of middle school girls and is deeply committed to fostering a girl-centered environment of academic excellence, emotional well-being, deep belonging, and joyful learning.

Position overview

The Middle School Principal is responsible for the overall leadership and day-to-day operation of the department. This includes ensuring an outstanding academic program, developing a healthy and inclusive community culture, and supporting the professional growth and excellence of faculty and staff. The principal collaborates closely with the principal and colleagues across departments to align CSG’s academic, social, and emotional programs, ensuring cohesion across the PS-12 experience.

Key responsibilities

  • Serve as the middle school instructional leader, ensuring alignment with CSG’s mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.
  • Lead and inspire middle school faculty and staff, promoting a culture of collaboration, professionalism, and continued growth.
  • Oversee the academic program for grades 6-8, ensuring excellence in teaching, curriculum development and assessment that reflects best practices in girls’ education.
  • Partner with the Assistant Principal to promote instructional innovation, interdisciplinary learning, and faculty professional development.
  • Lead the student life and social and emotional learning program, promoting a positive and inclusive school culture grounded in respect, belonging and well-being.
  • Partner with deans and advisory team to support student development, wellness, and discipline rooted in restorative practices.
  • Collaborate with faculty, families, and students to ensure that each girl is recognized, challenged, and supported to thrive academically and personally.
  • Supervising, evaluating, and mentoring middle school faculty; Participate in the recruitment and qualification of new faculty and staff.
  • Manage departmental budgets, schedules, and daily operations efficiently and strategically.
  • Partner with the Office of Admissions to support enrollment, retention, and family engagement initiatives.
  • Serve as a visible and accessible presence throughout the middle school community: attending classes, events, and celebrations that build connection and spirit.
  • Collaborate with the senior management team on strategic initiatives, accreditation processes, and corporate planning.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion and belonging that honors dignity by aligning with the school’s stated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging work to support a girl-centered experience.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with families about school programs, student progress, and community expectations.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required; – A minimum of 5-7 years of teaching experience, with a minimum of 2-3 years in an administrative or leadership role, preferably in an independent or girls-only school.
  • Deep understanding of early adolescent development and the unique strengths and needs of middle school girls.
  • Proven ability to build trust, enhance collaboration, and lead with empathy and accountability.
  • -Proven experience in curriculum design, instructional leadership, and faculty development.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; Ability to manage multiple priorities with clarity and grace.
  • Commitment to CSG’s mission, core values ​​and the transformative power of girls’ education.
