Linux Kernel Engineer – Tegra, Santa Clara, CA

Linux Kernel Engineer – Tegra To help shape the next era of accelerated computing for autonomous machines! As a Senior Architect, you will play a critical role in developing our system software portfolio across platforms – from automotive and robotics to large-scale data centers. You will drive architectural decisions around the operating system’s kernel subsystems, scheduling, memory management, power/performance optimization, and I/O frameworks. You’ll collaborate across hardware, software, and research teams to design the features that power NVIDIA’s next generation products.

What will you do:
Lead efforts to promote Linux for use by autonomous devices in safety-critical environments
Analyze and improve product performance to customer needs
Work with internal team members and the core community to bring these capabilities into various open source packages
What we need to see:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree (or equivalent experience).
More than 6 years of related software development experience
Expert-level knowledge and experience in system software design and operating system fundamentals
Deep understanding of computer architecture, microprocessor concepts (cache, buses, memory controllers, DMA, etc.)
Proven leadership skills and strong ownership of previous projects in an environment with complex software and hardware architectures
Clear verbal and written communication with a proven track record of building consensus within a large organization
Exceptional C programming and low-level driver experience; Background and robustness with complex system-level debugging, performance analysis and test design
Kernel development experience with Linux, Android, Chrome, or Windows
Ways to stand out from others:
Experience as a maintainer or senior contributor on large open source software projects
In-depth knowledge of system level security. Demonstrated engagement with the community as a whole
Knowledge of virtualization platforms (Xen, KVM, Hyper-V)
Experience with embedded system SW concepts, eg: RTOS and overlapping programming models
Your base salary will be determined based on your location, experience, and the salaries of employees in similar positions. The base salary range is $184,000 – $287,500 for Level 4, and $224,000 – $356,500 for Level 5.
You will also be eligible for equity and benefits.
