Main purpose of the job

The Maryland Park Service Department of Natural Resources is currently hiring for multiple seasonal contract positions for the fall 2025 to spring 2026 season at Cedarville State Forest, Smallwood State Park, and Merkle NRMA.

Minimum qualifications

education: no one

expertise: 40 hours of customer service or maintenance experience. This includes, but is not limited to, professional or volunteer experience in retail, service industry, management, or similar fields as described in the application. *Credit cannot be given for education, training, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities that you fail to indicate.

Required or preferred qualifications

A minimum of six (6) months of experience working on a park site conducting park operations.

Licenses, registrations and certificates

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of an automobile, UTV, or golf cart. Employees assigned to these duties will be required to possess a valid Maryland Vehicle Operator’s License and five or fewer points on their current driving record. Please note that a provisional driver’s license will not be accepted as restrictions may conflict with job requirements.

Special requirements

Applicants selected for employment may be subject to an employment background investigation, including, but not limited to: employment reference check, education verification, driving record check (if the position requires employees to drive a vehicle) and a criminal history check including fingerprinting. If the position you are considering requires a job, driving, or criminal history check, continued employment will be conditional on the results.

For education obtained outside the United States, a transcript of equivalent U.S. education as determined by the Foreign Credential Evaluation Service must be submitted prior to employment.

Contract employees who work for an agency covered by the State Employees and Retirees Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours per week (or an average of 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contract employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of your Medicare coverage premiums and prescriptions, including any qualifying dependents you have enrolled. The state of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost of these benefits. You can also choose to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but you will be responsible for paying the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contract employee who has worked 120 days within a 12-month period. This leave is accrued at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, provided that it does not exceed 40 hours in a calendar year.
