Our vision is to be the leading public medical school in the country. We rank second in primary care education among all U.S. medical schools and fifth among our public sector peers National Institutes of Health Research funding. Our Allied Health Division includes five top-ranked departments, and we are home to 18 of the top-ranked clinical and basic sciences departments in National Institutes of Health Research funding.

Patient care: We will advance health and provide great clinical care while maintaining our strong tradition of reaching underserved populations and reducing health disparities throughout North Carolina and beyond.

education: We will prepare the healthcare professionals and biomedical researchers of the future by facilitating learning within innovative curricula and team-oriented professional education. We will develop outstanding teaching and research staff, and recruit outstanding students and trainees from very diverse backgrounds to create a socially responsible and highly skilled workforce.

research: We will develop and support a rich array of distinguished research programmes, centers and resources in the health sciences. We will provide infrastructure and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across our university and beyond to support outstanding research. We will strengthen programs in the areas of basic, translational, mechanistic and population research.
