Main purpose of the job

The primary purpose of this part-time contract position is to determine applicants’ eligibility for health insurance coverage for low-income pregnant women of any age, children under the age of 21, and adults under the age of 65, in accordance with guidelines established by the Office of Eligibility Services.

Minimum qualifications

education: Graduation from an accredited high school or obtaining a high school equivalency certificate.

expertise: One year of clerical experience in policy enforcement in a Medicare, health insurance, or federal or state entitlement program.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional general clerical experience on an annual basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

Selection process

Applicants who meet the minimum (and selective) qualifications will be included in further evaluation. The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training, and experience as they relate to the job requirements. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information about your application. Please report all relevant education, experience, dates and hours of employment. Clearly indicate your degree and major in your application, if possible. For education acquired outside the United States, any job offer will be conditional upon the candidate submitting an equivalency evaluation through a Foreign Credential Evaluation Service prior to beginning employment (which may be requested prior to the interview).

Candidates may remain on the approved eligible list for at least one year. The approved qualified list generated for this recruitment may be used to fill similar positions in this agency or other state agencies.

Contract employees who work for an agency covered by the State Employees and Retirees Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours per week (or an average of 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contract employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of your Medicare coverage premiums and prescriptions, including any qualifying dependents you have enrolled. The state of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost of these benefits. You can also choose to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but you will be responsible for paying the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contract employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours in a calendar year.
