Main purpose of the job
This position is entry level work involving security and patient care in Maryland Department of Health (MDH) facilities where care is provided to offenders, patients or residents with behavioral health diagnoses who have been adjudicated not criminally responsible for the commission of felonies; And for those who are too violent to fit into a normal hospital or residential setting and who are considered a danger to themselves or others. This position does not supervise other positions. This position receives close supervision from the Security Supervisor. This position is assigned to day, evening, night, or rotating shifts. This position is subject to call during emergencies and staffing shortages. This staff member may be asked to move and position patients or apply physical restraints. This position is evaluated using a taxonomic job evaluation methodology. Using this method involves comparing the duties and responsibilities assigned to the position with the job standards found in the Nature of Work and Examples of Work sections of the category specifications. The distinction between Security Attendant I and Security Officer II is made based on the degree of supervisory control exercised by the supervisor over these employees. Minimum qualifications
education: A high school diploma or high school equivalency certificate is acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulations.

Licenses, registrations and certificates
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned tasks that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned to these duties will be required to possess a valid Maryland Vehicle Operator’s License.
2. Some jobs in this classification may require operating large trucks to transport patients. Employees assigned to these duties will be required to have a Maryland driver’s license of the appropriate class for this type of vehicle
Special requirements
1. Employees who have not already done so must meet the required selection criteria and successfully complete the training prescribed by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission for a correctional employee during the probationary period, (Correctional Services Article Section 8-209). Selection criteria for correctional officer training are listed in detail in the Maryland Code of Regulations, Title 12, Subtitle 10, Chapter 01 and include the following:
US citizenship or resident alien status
You must be at least 21 years old
Complete background investigation
Oral interview
Physical examination.
2. Employees in this classification will be required to provide the facility with a reachable telephone number.
3. Employees in this classification are subject to drug testing in accordance with Maryland Code Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Unlawful Use of Drugs.

The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training, and experience as they relate to the job requirements.
