Head of Real Estate at Goodenough College

Goodenough College is an educational charity, providing accommodation for international postgraduate students (we call them members) and their families. The college is located in two locations across a picturesque central London square. It offers a variety of accommodation options from shared single rooms, en-suite rooms and family apartments, as well as great halls, libraries and shared rooms.

The college also owns the 4-star Goodenough Hotel, located nearby, which carries out income-generating business activities. Financial proceeds from the hotel directly support the college’s charitable mission, helping to encourage and assist the education of its members.

In addition, the college owns The Burn, a Scottish retreat featuring a 20-bedroom Grade II listed mansion. The Burn is primarily an academic retreat for graduate students but is also available for private bookings, family celebrations and holiday accommodation.

The College is looking for an experienced Head of Estates to oversee a variety of vital functions relating to its estate. This role includes real estate operations, asset replacement, sustainable energy management and capital project management. The successful candidate will join a vibrant international community, contributing to innovative projects within a supportive workplace.

This role requires full-time on-site work.

Some key responsibilities:

  • Supported the Property Manager on several key projects, such as renovating 43-47 Mecklenburgh Square, integrating smart building technologies, and implementing an inspection and maintenance program during the year.
  • Manage a team to ensure a high level of performance and productivity in all real estate functions.
  • Monitor and report on the department budget as part of financial oversight of real estate operations.
  • Providing effective leadership in health and safety, including producing reports for audits and inspections.

Applicants must prove:

  • A relevant higher qualification in a construction-related discipline.
  • Membership of a recognized professional institute, such as CIOB, RICS or IWFM.
  • Proven high-level facilities management and experience managing complex capital projects.
  • Experience leading and supervising a multidisciplinary team and service providers.
  • Strong knowledge of budget management, energy contracts and business continuity planning.
  • Experience in health and safety best practices.
