This position works in the landscape design organizational unit. This is professional park planning work that includes responsibility for preparing development plans, designs and specifications for new and existing parks and recreational facilities and providing advice on a variety of park planning and related environmental matters. The incumbent oversees the planning and design of all new parks, redevelopment of existing parks and facilities, and directs the work of consultants. Work includes preparing cost estimates, budget requirements, and recommendations on a variety of parks and related issues, maintaining interdepartmental liaison with consultants and other internal and external contacts, and representing the department at various internal and external meetings. The incumbent exercises significant independence of judgment and works within departmental policies, regulations, and budgetary constraints. Work is performed under the administrative direction of a supervisor who reviews work performance in terms of achieving desired objectives and conforming to established policies and procedures. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include university graduation in landscape architecture or related disciplines, as well as significant relevant experience, preferably courses in environmental sciences. Or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of landscape design principles and practices, construction methods, materials, and horticultural techniques. Sound knowledge of policies, procedures, regulations and procedures applicable to municipal planning. The incumbent will have the ability to develop conceptual plans, prepare and supervise the preparation of detailed specifications for the development of parks and public open spaces; Develop and monitor budgets; Consultant and contract management; Organize and conduct public interest group meetings, prepare graphic presentations, resolve conflicting demands, read and interpret architectural, architectural and landscape plans and be skilled in the use of drafting and graphic arts tools and equipment. A British Columbia driver’s license, and registration or eligibility to register with the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects, are required.
