Our Parks, Recreation and Culture Department’s Food Services Division is looking for Food Service Hosts to work in an assistant capacity at various locations throughout Burnaby. Shadbolt Arts Centre, Burnaby Village Museum, Edmonds Café, Bill Copeland Sports Centre, and Swangard Stadium are just a few of the sites. Work includes various duties related to concessions and catering, including operating point-of-sale cash registers; Preparation of float deposits and banks, food preparation and alcohol serving, daily cleaning of food preparation areas, and preparation of specialty coffee beverages.

This position involves ongoing contact with the general public, catering customers, City staff, and community groups in high volume cash handling environments. Ideal candidates will have work experience in the food service industry, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be able to work independently and as part of a team. This position will require the ability to work evening and weekend shifts. Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications include up to high school graduation plus some relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of using work-related equipment. – Sound knowledge of health regulations and laws related to work. Ability to perform simple clerical duties such as taking inventory, receiving cash, and balancing cash with sales. Catering experience is an asset along with certifications for proper and safe catering.

Hourly rate: $21.59 + 12% in lieu of benefits

table: This is an additional position, hours and shifts are based on operational requirements, and are scheduled by the department on an as needed basis. The incumbent must have the ability to work scheduled shifts in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Available hours are Monday through Sunday from 5:30 AM to 1:00 AM.
