salary: £27,000 – £28,500

condition: Fixed term until February 2027

Are you passionate about protecting and understanding the natural world? We are looking for a specialist ecologist to support the development phase of a historic conservation initiative at Inverbroom, a 7,000 hectare reserve in the Scottish Highlands. This role provides a unique opportunity to shape the future of landscape restoration at scale, working with a passionate team and a broad range of stakeholders to achieve positive nature outcomes for people and wildlife.

About the role

you will:

  • Oversee contracted habitat surveys including National Vegetative Classification (NVC) surveys across the reserve.
  • Conduct surveys to assess habitat condition and forest herbivore impact assessments (HIAs). Supervising contracted dwarf shrub health areas and comprehensive swamps.
  • Conduct surveys of protected species, including, but not limited to, surveys of otters, water voles, red squirrel, pine marten, badgers and bats. ·
  • Conduct breeding bird surveys, including upland wading surveys.
  • Supervising contracted environmental river surveys.
  • Conduct surveys for non-native invasive species, including plants and mammals.

About you

You will attend:

  • Proven comprehensive knowledge of Scottish habitats and species experience
  • Significant experience in environmental surveys/monitoring, ideally including protected habitats, birds and mammals
  • Extensive experience in preparing reports and presenting key results
  • Knowledge of data management techniques for environmental survey data
