Otterbein University is looking for a Chief Integration Officer. The Chief Inclusion Officer is a senior leadership position that will be pivotal to Otterbein University’s ability to 1) coordinate efforts to ensure we welcome and educate a diverse student body from an inclusive perspective and 2) lead in the Central Ohio community as we seek to maximize the potential of every individual, employer and community partner.

This position is located in the university’s highest administrative team, the Office of the President. It is designed to coordinate the many good things already happening across the university rather than leading a large staff who will take these responsibilities away from others. The Chief Inclusion Officer will collaboratively develop and facilitate implementation of the inclusion plan for the entire organization, including every office and function – from how we support students to how we hire staff.

This is a full-time exempt position working 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. This position reports to the Executive Vice President of Strategic Initiatives.

Job responsibilities

Internal leadership:

  • Lead Otterbein in implementing strategic initiatives, including creating an inclusive culture that attracts and retains a truly diverse workforce and student body. Collaborates with others on multi-year plans for this purpose, including clear metrics, goals and accountability measures.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and academic leaders to ensure that the curriculum allows students to encounter and consider different cultures and perspectives.
  • Work with Student Affairs and the Office of Social Equity and Advocacy to identify and respond to student needs and concerns about campus inclusivity.
  • Work with Human Resources and search committees to support Otterbein’s efforts to recruit faculty and staff who reflect the diversity of our student body and to retain those who work to improve our culture of welcome and discovery.
  • Collaborate to develop a strategic plan for belonging and inclusion, and maximize collaboration across the organization toward shared goals and metrics.
  • Chairing the university’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and using it as a tool to encourage compatibility with the plans and values ​​it adopts.
  • Provide leadership and coordination for the Campus Center for Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation.

External leadership:

  • Identify and connect with employers eager to recruit, develop and retain their inclusive workforce, creating opportunities for Otterbein students and increasing revenue as Otterbein supports building corporate culture through training, assessments and other resources.
  • Identify and connect with school districts and nonprofits working with youth to develop enrollment pipelines that expand access to Otterbein, in collaboration with the Enrollment Management Department.

In partnership with the Foundation for Institutional Advancement, work with Otterbein alumni interested in supporting the inclusion of our campuses, including alumni who may not have felt fully welcomed during their time on campus. Use this network to mentor students, get involved on campus, and fundraise.

Qualifications

education: Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Studies, Sociology, Legal Studies, Psychology or related fields. A master’s degree in a related field is preferred but relevant experience such as campus-wide diversity leadership may substitute for a master’s degree.

expertise: At least 7 years of experience in higher education, including at least 5 years of experience working on initiatives designed to advance organizational diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and identify, evaluate, and present data for decision making; Experience in leadership positions in higher education that involve interaction with multiple divisions and divisions is strongly preferred.

Certificates, licenses and registrations: Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain Otterbein University Certified Driver status.

Language skills: Must demonstrate oral and written communication skills at a professional level including grammar.

Sports skills: Must be competent in general mathematics.

Ability to think: Must possess the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with diverse departments; Must have excellent attention to detail; Must be a team player and interact collaboratively with co-workers and other constituencies; Must be able to handle multiple projects independently; Must be able to analyze complex requests and requirements and provide effective recommendations and proposed solutions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach, sit, reach, and use repetitive motions of the hands and wrists. This position requires close vision. Must be able to meet regular and expected attendance standards.
