table: 80 hours every two weeks; Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM

This position works in the Facilities Management and Plumbing organizational unit. These are journey level skilled plumbers. An employee in this category exercises substantial independent judgment in handling technical work problems involving the maintenance, repair, and installation of plumbing, irrigation, water and sewer systems throughout City facilities and may supervise the work of one or more subordinates engaged in less skilled tasks. In addition, the successful candidate performs minor heating equipment maintenance and repair tasks. The incumbent is subject to call at any time for emergency response reasons. The work of this class is distinguished from the lower-level classes by the more advanced nature of duties, the wider latitude in the use of independent judgment and the supervisory responsibility it entails. The incumbent exercises a great deal of independent judgment and procedures in completing most tasks in accordance with established business practices. Oral and written assignments, often accompanied by sketches, layouts and schemes, are received from a superior who reviews work performance in terms of effective business operation, conformity with established standards and achievement of desired objectives. Installation work shall be inspected by the City Plumbing Inspector as required. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by completion of a recognized trade qualification certificate as well as significant general experience at Journeyperson level; Or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade.
  • Great knowledge of the risks and safety precautions of trading.
  • Great knowledge of city plumbing regulations and standards.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, drawings, and rough drafts and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to assign and supervise the work of one or more individuals engaged in less complex plumbing tasks.
  • Ability to maintain simple records, estimate materials required, and order parts and materials as required; and using innovative technologies, best practices and materials to improve quality and manufacturing, reduce costs and reduce life cycle costs.

BC Driver’s License, BC Level B Gas Installer License, and BCWWA Cross Connection Certification required.
