About the Ministry

Wayne Presbyterian Youth Ministry is experiencing an exciting growth season, with a strong core of engaged students, active parent support, and a collaborative staff. Weekly participation already exceeds national standards, fueled by a vibrant mix of Sunday school, youth group, retreats, service projects, and the beloved annual Montreat outing. With momentum on its side, the ministry is ready for a visionary leader who can build on a solid foundation and help shape the next chapter of student impact, discipleship, and leadership.

The ideal candidate

The ideal leader for this role is a strategic and relational team builder – someone who brings warmth and vision, and is able to onboard volunteers, mentor students, and shape a sustainable discipleship strategy. They must be energized by collaboration, culturally aware of student rhythms, and passionate about helping youth grow in faith and leadership.

Key responsibilities

– Weekly direct youth programs and lessons: Plan and lead youth group, confirmation, and Sunday school through creative, faith-based programs.

– Training and supervision of volunteers and trainees: Recruit, train, and manage volunteers, maintain safety compliance, and build a strong leadership team.

– Coordination of special events and trips: Organizing retreats, mission trips, and service projects that promote community and spiritual growth.

– Providing networking and fellowship for youth and university students: Build relationships with local students and offer opportunities to get involved.

– Integrating the youth program with other ministries: Collaborating across church ministries to connect youth to worship, missions, and family faith development.

– Developing and leading the apprenticeship strategy: Create a path for spiritual growth and leadership development for middle and high school students.

Qualifications

– Strong organizational skills. Self-motivated and a team player

– Understand adolescent and youth development and related educational literature

– Ability to effectively use and train others on educational curricula and materials

– Able to prepare and teach weekly lessons for youth and young adults

– Skilled in motivating, recruiting and managing work teams

– Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

– Bachelor’s degree in Youth Ministry or related field (preferred)

– Culturally aware of the rhythms of student life and able to adapt ministry accordingly
