The role

In this role, you will be primarily involved in managing the sports science and engineering laboratories, supporting the research being conducted within the Advanced Welfare Research Center (AWRC).

You will be integrated into the AWRC’s operational management team, and will work closely with a local technical team managing the day-to-day workload, as well as working with the wider Sport and Exercise Science team and the central TORS service. The main focus areas of this publication include physiology, biomechanics, anthropometry, and sports engineering.

We recognize that you are unlikely to have comprehensive knowledge in all of these areas, so we are looking for an individual who is competent and enthusiastic about learning new techniques and who is trained, as required, to support a diverse research portfolio.

With excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will conduct training and demonstrations of equipment operation to relevant parties as required, producing training manuals and other relevant documentation to assist with this. Coordinating health and safety management in the research center will also be a prominent element of the role. Finally, having experience in bringing new equipment and processes into effect would be beneficial, for example, scoping, procurement, commissioning (including due diligence for health and safety considerations), training, etc.

You will be expected to work flexibly, be highly motivated and meticulous in your work, with a professional work ethic, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively across team boundaries and share knowledge and skills to ensure customer focused results.

The Technical Operations, Resources and Services (TORS) team provides consolidated technical support across Sheffield Hallam University.

The service supports face-to-face teaching and all practical activities to a high standard, supported by a highly skilled technical services team.

The team supports academic delivery across the city, university and Olympic Campuses (OLP). This role will be based at OLP, but there may be times when your experience is required, or for training purposes, you may be required at other locations.
