Procurement Specialist

Position overview
The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent, full-time Procurement Specialist. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Purchasing, the incumbent purchases a wide range of supplies, materials, tools, equipment, and services for City departments. This includes reviewing purchase orders, preparing bid and tender documents, sourcing vendors, requests for bids, procurement, analyzing bids, and recommending awards. The Procurement Specialist performs administrative duties related to procurement, purchasing and inventory of City of Nanaimo assets.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a Diploma in Business Administration from a recognized educational institution or a professional certification from a recognized supply chain institution, as well as a minimum of 4 years of purchasing experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Possession of a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license is required.
Additional information
This is a CUPE bargaining unit position based on a 40-hour work week, subject to the Section 1(d) – Probationary Period as set forth in the Union Collective Agreement. The hourly wage is $42.34 and increases to $44.57 after 60 working days (January 2025 rates).
