Department of Arts and Media Technology

The Department of Arts and Media Technology works across fine arts, contemporary curating, games design, creative technology and computing, digital media practices, and arts and cultural leadership. The Department supports a politically alert and context-savvy interdisciplinary research environment, where practice-based, scholarly and editorial processes all play a role.

About the role

This appointment will strengthen collaborative, research-led learning within the Department of Arts and Media Technology and expand the international scope of our research activities and projects. The Bachelor of Science in Creative Computing is a fine arts course rooted in technical media, skills and history, and thus attracts students with diverse backgrounds who seek to critically engage technological practices in contemporary cultural discourse. The Bachelor’s and Master’s of Fine Arts programs develop student-centered fine arts practices across media, aligned with the research interests of staff.

In addition to pursuing an active, practice-based and internationally recognized research program aligned with the department’s strategic objectives, you will make a significant contribution to teaching across the Department of Arts and Media Technology in accordance with your specialisms. Primarily, you will contribute primarily to the Bachelor of Science in Creative Computing and the Master of Fine Arts.

About you

You will demonstrate a commitment to education and the ability to bring your own research to bear on the improvement of our undergraduate and graduate programs.

You will have an integral role in the delivery of the Bachelor of Science in Creative Computing and Master of Fine Arts programme, with a focus on studio practice and technologically supported creative experiences. Your teaching will lead to studio practice but will also be lecture-based and include relevant critical theory. The Bachelor of Creative Computing program starts in 2024, so you will be an integral part of its development and future.

You will have an established or emerging international reputation for practice-based research in a broad field of art and technology. Specifically, you will have a history of practice-based learning and direct practical skills related to (e.g., making prototypes, interactive installations, data-driven artwork).

We particularly welcome applications from candidates with research and teaching experience in the following areas:

  • Contemporary interactive practice using some of the following, but not limited to:
  • Creative coding (e.g. through JavaScript, Python, Processing)
  • Unity or other gaming platforms
  • Web or application development
  • voice
  • Lens-based media
  • Theories and history of technology, science, culture, creativity, art, design and/or media.
