Colorado State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Natural Sciences (CNS). The Dean reports to the Provost and Executive Vice President, and serves as the chief academic officer and spokesperson for the college regarding curricular, personnel, and resource advocacy issues.
We are looking for a leader who is passionate about scientific research, educating the next generation of scientists and mathematicians, and increasing the impact of CNS programs.

The Dean is the principal administrative and academic officer of the College and reports to the University Dean/Executive Vice President. The Dean is responsible for managing and ensuring the quality of the college’s academic programs, implementing policies, managing personnel and financial resources, and securing internal and external support. The Dean provides leadership to the college by establishing a compelling vision and implementing a strategic plan to achieve that vision.

Position Summary:

We are looking for a leader who is passionate about scientific research, educating the next generation of scientists and mathematicians, and increasing impact Central nervous system Programs.

The Dean is the principal administrative and academic officer of the College and reports to the University Dean/Executive Vice President. The Dean is responsible for managing and ensuring the quality of the college’s academic programs, implementing policies, managing personnel and financial resources, and securing internal and external support. The Dean provides leadership to the college by establishing a compelling vision and implementing a strategic plan to achieve that vision.



Required job qualifications:

  • He must have a final academic degree in one of the scientific specializations related to the college’s mission, and have a distinguished record of achievements worthy of appointment as a full-time professor in one of the college’s academic departments.
  • Administrative and leadership experience at the level of dean, associate dean, associate dean, department chair/chair, program or center director, or equivalent, including personnel and financial management experience.



Preferred job qualifications:

  • A visionary, collaborative organizational approach skilled at empowering a strong team of leaders across the college;
  • Demonstrated success in financial management to support educational and research efforts and/or development of entrepreneurship programs.
  • Experience in a university research context 1, or equivalent;
  • An outstanding research record including evidence of external funding, foundation funding, industry partnerships, or equivalent;
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, external relations, industry collaboration, or equivalent;
  • A record of successful teaching and/or mentoring in a scientific field;
  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to the mission of land grant access;
  • Evidence of the ability to advocate for the College, communicate with, understand, and appreciate the role of the College’s internal and external stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of enrollment management, student success programs, and/or student recruitment.
