Clojure Backend Engineer

Who are we?

You may not know us yet, but we are the company that keeps the apps on your smart devices bug-free. Mobot is an on-demand testing platform – powered by AI, computer vision, and a fleet of robots (yes, real mechanical robots!) – for mobile applications on actual devices. Our mission is to revolutionize the way engineering teams test and develop their products. We work with software teams in all types of industries – mobile, e-commerce, fintech, health, and IoT (to name a few) – and provide automated testing for their mobile products and smart devices.

What we are looking for

Mobot is looking for a thoughtful, collaborative, and talented Backend Software Engineer to build the future of QA physical infrastructure in the cloud. Our stack is Clojure, ClojureScript, C, C++, and Python, on different cloud infrastructure platforms. We are looking for engineers with high integrity, low ego and an insatiable drive to learn.

This role is remote – with a strong preference for candidates who can work concurrently with our team based on the East Coast. If you prefer to work out of our beautiful New York City office, we welcome you to do so as well! Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

The role

We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to own our core data model (and much more) as we develop and scale our platform. You will work with backend, developers and mechanics to expand our backend web service. If leading a team is your jam – that’s great – this role represents an opportunity to lead a small team of backend developers. If you prefer to focus on code – that’s fine with us too.

This is a key opportunity to shape the way engineering teams launch applications that our customers’ millions of end users use every day.

Responsibilities

We are a small but mighty team where everyone thinks above their weight. While we expect the most successful candidates to focus largely on the backend, your responsibilities will evolve as you grow with Mobot. Here are some of the iconic projects you’ll be supporting once you join:

• Own our core data model and scale it as our product grows in complexity and scope
• Develop smarter, faster matching and evaluation frameworks to improve the speed and accuracy of our platform
• Empowering the team to thoughtfully improve our product
• Go full stack (if necessary) for key feature pushes – during design and build
• Promoting a culture of cooperation and a comprehensive work environment

requirements

A must have

• 5+ years of professional experience as a software engineer
• Proven knowledge of Clojure
• Ownership – Experience owning a broad range of responsibilities in a low-structure, high-impact, rapidly evolving environment
• Independence – Able to think and develop specifications on your own amidst ambiguity
• Collaboration – We believe that software development is a team process. We use a rich, supportive and collaborative design process – and we expect you to contribute thoughtfully and respectfully
• Polish and Passion – Take great pride and passion in your work – we build high-quality tools for other development teams

Nice to have

• Bonus points if you’ve worked at an early-stage startup
• Experience contributing to open source projects
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and delivery pipelines
• Passion for robots!
