Business mathematics teacher in study group

The Center for International Studies at Liverpool John Morris University is now recruiting for a Business Mathematics Tutor to join its existing teaching team. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the Mathematics modules for Business modules, specifically to Level 4 students including Financial Accounting, Financial Reporting and Statistics to students on university preparation programs offered by the centre.

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and innovative teacher. The right candidate will have a natural ability to motivate students and provide high quality teaching as well as undertaking relevant pastoral functions. You will enjoy working with international students, be performance-driven and be able to work collaboratively and flexibly with other colleagues within the center and across the network. We are looking for a patient teacher who is committed to providing an interesting and effective blended learning experience for our students.

About the role

  • Providing high quality education to groups of international students
  • To undertake marking and provide feedback on a formative and summative basis, complying with quality standards and processes.
  • To act as unit leader in relevant thematic areas to include coordinating a team of teachers, updating unit handbooks, preparing unit assessment analysis, review reports and detailed work plans (indicative)
  • To deliver work plans effectively, and to identify and mark assessments in a timely manner.
  • To teach a maximum of 20 hours per week (teaching contact time).
  • Implementing reinforcement and enrichment activities across the curriculum (both inside and outside the classroom).
  • To ensure student adherence to punctuality, attendance and appropriate behavior in the classroom/teaching rooms.
  • To maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance and assessment scores.
  • To maintain accurate tracking of progress risk and student performance data.
  • Make every effort to ensure the best performance of each student at his or her level, whether during the course of study or in final exams and assessments.
  • To actively promote the use of differentiation in the classroom.
  • To promote the creative use of TEL (Technology Enhanced Learning) and ensure that the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) meets provider and university standards for the modules you teach.
  • Contribute to the preparation of student reports in the middle and end of the semester.
  • To be responsible for creating and updating educational materials
  • To implement projects as directed by the subject leader.
  • Provide cover when necessary.

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in the subject area
  • Master’s and/or PhD in subject area (desirable)
  • Relevant teaching qualification
  • Significant practical teaching experience (ideal for international students on foundation level university preparation courses).
  • Experience in developing and updating educational materials for blended learning, and experience working with a virtual learning environment
  • Proficiency in administrative and IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work under pressure and within deadlines.
  • Enthusiasm and drive to be a performance-driven team player.
