Assistant Curator of Performances, Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY
Assistant Performance Coordinator, Performance and Live Arts
The Museum of Modern Art is accepting applications for an Assistant Performance Coordinator in the Department of Performance and Live Arts who will support the coordination of various performance-related activities in MoMA’s exhibition program, which includes a new space dedicated to live and experimental programming in the heart of the Museum’s galleries, the Marie-Josée and Henri Kravis Studio, which opened for the first time to the public in the fall of 2019. Exhibitions in the Studio have included works by David Tudor, composers Inside Electronics, Okoye Okpokwasili and Joan Jonas, and upcoming programs will include Samora Pinderhose and Navus Ramirez Figueroa. Additional projects may include the work of Adam Pendleton and a focus on digital programming. This is a four-year fixed-term position expected to start in November 2025 with a potential opportunity for extension.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Supporting the Director and Senior Director/Producer, Performance and Live Arts, works alongside other members of the Performance Gallery team, including project coordinators, production assistants, curators, curatorial assistants, visitor engagement staff, security staff, exhibition design and production staff, audio-visual staff, and other departments.
- Assists in executing performance schedules, and serves as the first point of contact for on-site artists and performers.
- Coordinate with various third parties such as costume supervisors and documentation staff.
- Organizes and maintains green room supplies.
- Conducts regular inspections of the exhibit as needed.
- – Solve questions from performers.
- Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, drafting notes, researching projects, maintaining and creating project files, general office organization, and budget tracking.
requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree and two to three years of relevant experience in theater, museum, exhibition planning, live performance, or similar is considered highly
- Organized, clear and professional.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite, and other standard office procedures and equipment.
- Strong attention to detail: visual and written accuracy and accuracy required.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Must work effectively both independently and as part of a larger team in a fast-paced environment.
- Skilled at prioritizing and multitasking, in order to pursue a variety of projects that require immediate attention as well as long-term care.
- The ability to maintain composure in a sometimes stressful environment is a must.
- High level of diplomacy, governance and accountability.
- Strong knowledge of a wide range of contemporary art, especially performance.
- Must be flexible with work hours and be able to work nights and weekends as offers require.
Reports to: Senior Director/Producer, Performance & Live Programs
Salary range: The salary for this position is $63,000 (gross) per year
