Vice President for Financial and Administrative Affairs

LifeNet International, a rapidly growing Christian social impact organization dedicated to improving healthcare for millions of people across Africa, is looking for the right candidate to oversee the organization’s growing financial and administrative functions.
The successful candidate will oversee and manage all finance and administration functions of the organization, including budgeting, accounting, information technology, risk management, corporate and field operations, human resources and other systems that support the implementation of LifeNet International and its country programmes.
He will supervise the Director of Finance and Accounting and Director of Operations, and the Director of International Program Operations, based out of the Global Services team in Washington, D.C., and coordinate closely with Country Directors and their teams in the seven countries in which LifeNet operates in Africa.
Not only will the candidate be able to perform the roles, but will provide insight into important organization-wide dynamics, clarifying any changes as needed.
This person will be a collaborative partner with the Vice President of Development and Vice President of Programs, along with our Country Directors, providing ongoing reporting and strategic advice to the CEO.
The role reports directly to the CEO.

Key responsibilities
1. Strategy and financial management
- Oversee all aspects of finance and accounting in LifeNet’s US office and country offices.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, international accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Supervising accounting processes, cash flow reports, internal controls, audits and preparing 990 files.
- Lead monthly financial closes and year-end closes.
- Prepare and present financial reports: monthly (Chair), quarterly (Board), and departmental budget versus actual reports (senior leaders and country directors).
- Direct the global audit process, including U.S. and state-level audits.
- Oversee compliance with all contracts, agreements, grants and financial reporting requirements, including USG where applicable.
- Lead the organizational budget in coordination with senior management and country directors, including grants and country budgets.
- Approval/management of financial transfers between companies.
- Maintain accurate records of credit card holders and bank account signatories.
- Manage US and international payrolls and expense reimbursements.
- Manage US and regional procurement operations; Procurement support at country level for large or sensitive transactions.
2. Human resources
- Oversee human resources systems and administrative processes across US and regional offices.
- Ensure compliance and best practices in payroll tax filings, benefits (401k, health insurance, etc.), and HR policies.
- Keep HR policies updated, ensure they are disseminated, and provide guidance to employees.
3. IT systems and back offices
- Manage Google Drive, Gmail, and related systems through appropriate vendors (accounts, password resets, and permissions).
- Oversee the purchase and maintenance of hardware/software, and take advantage of non-profit discounts.
- Maintain organizational domain names and website hosting.
4. Risk management, compliance and legal oversight
- Leading organizational risk management systems: mapping, monitoring and mitigating risks globally.
- Maintain adequate insurance coverage for global operations.
- Make sure your US and international registrations (corporate, charitable offerings, tax exemptions, and local country registrations) are up to date.
- Support country offices in maintaining legal registrations and governance compliance.
- Ensure that organizational policies and procedures are current, adequate and implemented.
- Provide guidance on complex/emerging legal and compliance issues.
- Supervising whistleblowers and protecting reporting mechanisms.
- Manage systems to track partner agreements across programs.
- Overseeing intellectual property protection processes for LifeNet assets.
5. Governance and public administration
- Providing board support: scheduling meetings, preparing board packets, attending meetings, and drafting minutes.
- Manage DC office operations: rent, supplies, visitors, and mail processing.
- Ensure smooth administrative support for the US office and leadership team.
Experience and other qualities
- Direct experience managing the financial and administrative affairs of international social impact organizations. The ideal candidate will manage funding from a variety of sources, including individuals, foundations, and governments.
- Extensive experience in managing and preparing budgets for restricted and unrestricted funding from public and private donors.
- The ideal candidate will be experienced in establishing and managing management, operations and risk management systems across an organization of this size; Engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization to implement these systems.
- Proven experience working in finance and management in fragile or complex environments, particularly in Africa, with the ability to navigate challenging environments while maintaining organizational accountability and effectiveness.
- A can-do attitude to conduct and manage duties at a detailed level, while thinking about and making changes at an enterprise level, working with a small team of dedicated and capable professionals.
- A self-starter with executive abilities.
- Fifteen years of progressively increasing experience with a similar level of responsibilities in organizations with revenues of $10 million or more, particularly those with a proven track record of growth.
- Ability to implement systems and processes with a high return on investment, while keeping management costs in line with programming costs and outcomes
- Strong alignment with LifeNet’s faith-based mission.
- Willingness to travel to countries of operations approximately 2-4 times a year.
- Ability to work from our Washington, DC headquarters in downtown DC.
The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $175,000 annually. The actual salary offered will be determined based on factors including the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
