This project is a fully funded MSc by Research Scholarship in Medicinal Chemistry/Synthetic Organic Chemistry and builds on a successful decade-long research program at the University of Exeter to develop new molecules to address unmet clinical needs. This is demonstrated by publications with high impact, high citations, and innovation (eg 20 new ideas from UK universities that will change the world), patent applications, and commercialization (e.g., UoE spinout, Metorex treatments). Here, you will design, synthesize and characterize new potential drug structures to target intracellular structures that regulate cellular metabolism and that have potential therapeutic applications in a wide range of human disease conditions. In support of this, the compounds you create will be evaluated by other team members in cellular and In vivo Models. Depending on progress, you will be expected to present your research at major national and/or international research conferences.

The suitable candidate will have a degree or relevant professional experience in synthetic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry or pharmacy. It is recommended to understand confidentiality and intellectual property.
