The Physical Science Data Infrastructure Initiative (PSDI) is a large-scale infrastructure project funded by EPSRC. PSDI aims to enable researchers in the physical sciences to work with data more easily by connecting and enhancing the different data infrastructures they use. Through PSDI researchers will be able to:

  • Find and access reference-quality data from commercial and open sources
  • Integrate data from different sources
  • Share data, software and models including experimental and simulation data
  • Deploy near-data calculations and move data and programs into containers
  • Use artificial intelligence to explore data
  • Make their research results open and fair

We are looking for an enthusiastic coordinator of our partners and sub-projects with a background in physical sciences and excellent communication skills to join our team and support the day-to-day running of PSDIs activities. Key aspects of this role will be to act as the primary point of contact for our growing community of project partners and undertake event coordination and project tracking to ensure we achieve our deliverables accurately and in a timely manner.

Applicants must hold a PhD, or have equivalent professional qualifications or experience in the physical sciences. They should be able to demonstrate significant and reliable practical knowledge of the physical sciences, along with excellent communication skills.

In addition, applicants must have significant experience working in the physical sciences, as well as demonstrable experience in organizing events and a proven track record in project management and liaising with stakeholders/partners.

You will make a valuable contribution to achieving PSDI objectives, making contributions from research to user engagement and have the ability to grow your own areas of expertise. There will be opportunities to develop skills needed to progress your career and build on skills outside of the project and event format, such as scientific communication and co-coordination of our research projects, for example around electronic laboratory notebooks.

The position is offered as a full-time position with a permanent contract, subject to ongoing funding from PSDI (currently guaranteed until 31 March 2026). The position is based at the University of Southampton in the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
