The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is one of the most prestigious institutions of higher education and research in the world. Founded in 1895, the London School of Economics counts 18 Nobel Prize winners among its alumni and staff. In April 2025, we announced the appointment of General Counsel, Elizabeth Massoud, who will provide strategic legal services and support to the President and Vice Chancellor, as well as all other relevant stakeholders including the SMC and other committees. She also leads and has overall responsibility for the Secretary’s Department.

The successful candidate will be the first point of contact for the General Counsel portfolio and will be responsible for taking minutes and organizing committee meetings. Additionally, as part of the wider Secretariat team, they will assist with any general inquiries and visitors who may come into contact with the Secretariat.

This portfolio includes broad and critical legal, governance, compliance and strategic risk management aspects of LSE. The successful candidate will have the ability to involve themselves in all aspects of required interactions and understand the priorities overseen by the General Counsel.

The role also involves handling sensitive and confidential information and secretarial and/or administrative experience at a senior level with a particular focus on complex diary management. They should have the ability to work on a range of tasks simultaneously, to manage competing priorities and to organize their workload.

We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave and excellent training and development opportunities.
