Research Assistant (fixed term) at the University of Nottingham

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Assistant at the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Center (SPMIC) and Mental Health and Clinical Neurosciences, University of Nottingham Medical School, UK. Your role will be to assist and support the Computational Neuroimaging research team in conducting academic research and developing neuroimage analysis methodology for brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). You will work on in-silico biophysical modeling of neural tissue microstructure with the aim of correlating biophysical changes with changes in structural/functional MRI signals. You will be expected to perform work including computer simulations, program generation, literature research, data analysis, and report drafting.

You will join a founding team led by Professor Stam Sotiropoulos (https://conilab.nottingham.ac.uk), whose main areas of research interest include developing innovative neuroimaging techniques for systems-level brain mapping. The team has a strong track record in mapping brain connectivity using diffusion MRI, with a range of research programmes, including funding from the European Research Council (ERC) supporting this position. They are part of the Sir Peter Mansfield Imaging Center (SPMIC), the birthplace of MRI and soon to be home to the National Ultrafield (11.7T) facility in the UK.

Successful applicants are expected to have an undergraduate degree in a relevant computational field, such as engineering, physics, neuroscience, computer science and applied mathematics. Skills in computer programming (especially Python, C++, or Matlab) and scientific computing are essential. A Master’s degree may be desirable, but not essential, along with research experience in building methods for analyzing/modeling neuroimaging data.

The position is offered on a full-time basis (36.25 hours per week) or part-time basis (minimum 29 hours per week). Please specify your preferred hours in your order. The post is available from 5 January 2026 for a period of six months (full-time) or seven months (part-time).
