Public and Patient Involvement Projects (PPI) Coordinator at the University of Surrey

The Clinical Psychology Doctorate Program team has an exciting opportunity available for an individual with lived experience of mental health issues or as a carer for someone with mental health support needs, to become Chair of the Service Users and Carers Advisory Committee. The post commitment is one day per week which can be one day or split into two half days. Our team’s primary day is Tuesday, so some workdays need to be done on that day with flexibility for the other half of the day. The post carrier will be required to attend the Guildford campus. Mixed work is possible during the rest of the week.

The program has seen an expansion in training places over the past few years, due to increased funding from NHS England. The post therefore provides a unique opportunity to join the team at a time of growth and innovation. The post holder will work in close partnership with the academic team to support the delivery of the academic and research components of the program and facilitate the annual recruitment of trainee clinical psychologists. The post holder will also be expected to liaise with local public and patient engagement groups and the Psychological Professions Network to support the delivery of their work.

We welcome applications from diverse backgrounds. Having a university, master’s or doctoral qualification would be an advantage, as the post holder will arrange meetings to support trainees in developing their research. Additionally, previous experience working in complex organizations and communicating with a variety of audiences will be beneficial in this role. Successful applicants will be required to work as a member of a team, communicate with colleagues, provide academic teaching across their lifespan, and draw on a variety of theoretical and psychotherapeutic knowledge bases. They will also need to be passionate about supporting the development of trainee clinical psychologists to enable them to become confident and competent as culturally attuned practitioners.

The PsychD team is a welcoming, innovative and close-knit group with a broad range of clinical and research interests. The program is located within the specialty of Clinical and Health Psychology, within the College of Psychology. The School of Psychology has an outstanding reputation for training and research in applied psychology. You will join a vibrant department with an active research culture, and a team committed to inclusion, diversity and equality; and exploring the needs of underserved communities. There are multiple opportunities for continuing professional development, including eligibility for applicants to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (if they do not already hold one).
