NASC and DWP intend to create 5,000 scaffolding workstations in 2026
The National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) has teamed up with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to deliver 5,000 scaffolding work experience jobs across the UK in 2026.
TThe joint initiative, announced at ScaffEx25 in Manchester, represents one of the largest efforts to date to address the growing skills shortage in the construction industry.
The scheme will see NASC member companies across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland offer short-term positions supported by local DWP offices. Roles will include both on-site and office positions – from scaffolding and estimating to management – giving participants a broad view of the industry.

The program aims to support job seekers, veterans, rehabilitated offenders and career changers, providing them with work experience and a potential path to long-term employment.
Rebecca Jardine, Executive Director of Careers at NASC, said: “This is a practical and immediate response to one of the most pressing issues in the construction sector. By launching this program and inviting our members to participate, we are creating a clear, comprehensive pathway into the industry – while strengthening the workforce of the future.
NASC members pledge early support
NASC is encouraging its members to pledge recruitment ahead of the scheme’s official launch in 2026, and several companies have already signed up.
Lee Marley Scaffolding has pledged to provide 10 work experience spaces focusing on site visits.
“At Lee Marley Scaffolding, we recognize the importance of opening access to our industry and inspiring the next generation of talent.” The company said.
“By supporting NASC’s Work Experience Pledge, we are giving people valuable, first-hand insight into what a scaffolding career has to offer.”
JMAC, one of the UK’s fastest growing accessibility companies, has also pledged to create 10 jobs.
“We take pride in working within communities, providing employment opportunities for youth and building a sustainable workforce,” A company spokesman said.
“We are proud to participate in this initiative with NASC to drive more opportunities within the industry.”
The collaboration between NASC and DWP is part of a wider drive to promote scaffolding as a skilled, inclusive and rewarding career path, ensuring the next generation is equipped to meet the sector’s future demands.
