This role will require attendance at least 4 days a week with us Birmingham campus, with one day working from home to fit the student’s schedule. **Our hybrid work model arrangements are a non-contractual benefit that may be subject to change at any time during your employment, so please note that Arden work location is added to our employment contracts.

The Department of Law is located within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology and is part of a collaborative and supportive academic community. We are a small but friendly team that works closely across our different campuses and online. Our focus is on practice-ready programs that align with the requirements of professional practice.

About the opportunity:

We are looking for an innovative, professional individual with experience creating high-quality digital teaching materials to enhance student learning to join our growing Law Department.

You will need to be highly motivated as well as committed to creating an excellent teaching and learning environment for our students. You will have a good understanding of both the law degree qualifying and barrister qualifying examinations as well as wider industry issues, and will contribute to the development and delivery of both our undergraduate and postgraduate provisions. You will report to a Senior Lecturer in Law and will:

  • Deliver engaging and dynamic workshops both face-to-face and online to our on-campus and distance learning students.
  • Lead the unit, ensuring consistent quality and development of educational materials and work plans.
  • Design premium digital teaching materials for undergraduate and postgraduate studies to ensure content and delivery methods meet specified learning objectives.
  • Manage own teaching activity, reflection on practice and skills development, with support/guidance as needed.
  • Undertaking administrative activities to support teaching and learning activities.
  • Actively contribute to department-level activity.

**There may be occasional evenings/weekends.

About you:

Basic skills/experience

  • You will be eligible for a postgraduate level degree in English Law.
  • You must have the knowledge to be able to teach across the LLB curriculum including foundations of legal knowledge and in
  • At least two other modules are offered by the Law Department. This includes modules linked to the SQE curriculum.
  • Advanced Recognition – FHEA or willing to achieve within 12-18 months.
  • You will be experienced in current and effective teaching, learning and assessment practices in higher education, and will be able to bring your knowledge and understanding to Arden to grow our programs and provide excellent student outcomes.
  • We will also be interested in applications from practitioners with significant experience of supervising and/or training junior legal staff in the absence of formal teaching experience.

Desirable skills/experience

  • A Juris Doctorate degree and/or experience in legal practice is welcomed but not necessary.
  • Ideally, you will hold an FHEA or equivalent educational qualification. However, we are willing to support the successful candidate in obtaining a recognized educational qualification and an Advanced HE Fellowship at the appropriate level.
  • Experience supporting clinical legal education.
