Do you have experience identifying, evaluating and developing risk controls in industrial environments? Have you developed and implemented supporting frameworks to manage multiple risks? If this sounds like you, consider joining our growing team at Preventive Risk Management Services. As an Industrial Risk Specialist, you will lead and support risk-based projects, influence stakeholders across the province, and advise on risk-based strategies.

WorkSafeBC’s preventative risk management services focus on risks to workers in British Columbia, including those that cannot be easily identified and analyzed using WorkSafeBC’s current internal data sources. Risk categories include catastrophic risks, emerging risks, slow-acting damage, and risks that are not detected, underreported, or misdiagnosed. We are particularly interested in candidates who bring experience or insight into the safety implications of AI technologies, automation systems and robotics.

Where will you work?

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines remote and in-office work based on the operational needs of the job.

What will you do?

  • Evaluate contributing risk factors and potential risk controls by applying risk assessment frameworks, including bowtie analysis, hazard and operability study, FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), process mapping and analysis, and other risk assessment frameworks as appropriate.
  • Develop, improve and implement risk assessment frameworks and risk management tools to enhance organizational risk information and inform strategic decision-making to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify and evaluate regulatory frameworks relevant to contributing factors and risk control, and review regulatory frameworks in other jurisdictions
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in conducting comprehensive risk assessments and evaluations and identifying gaps in current risk control measures.
  • Where required, travel within the province to liaise with government agencies, employers, professional bodies and industry associations to report on and influence the practical application of the risk-based approach in industrial settings
  • Consistently models the appropriate level of organizational behaviors expected of all WorkSafeBC employees: responsiveness, respect, fairness, cooperation, responsibility, and forward-thinking.

Your background and experience:

  • A Master’s degree In a related field and a Minimum of three years of experience In industrial risk assessment and risk management or
  • A Bachelor’s degree In a related field and a At least four years of experience In industrial risk assessment and risk management
  • Recognized Occupational health and safety certificate is an asset (for example, CRSP, CSP, ROH, CIH, COHN)
  • Recognized certificate or hiring Addressing aspects Risk assessment and risk management An asset (e.g. CRM, P.Eng)
  • Additional certifications in AI/Automation Safety are highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of project management practices and applications
  • expertise Advise on Or supervision Automation projects (e.g. robotic arms, AGVs, sensor systems, IoT deployments) are preferred.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence/machine learning Concepts such as model outputs, confidence intervals, false positives/negatives, and model drift are preferred.
  • Training or certification in Functional safety (eg. IEC 61508, ISO 13849) or Robot safety It is an asset.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
