Independent consultant on sexual violence against children and young people architecture
location: Imara Nottingham office (mixed working available)
to divide: Shiva
Contract type: Fixed term contract
hours: 22.5 hours, with the possibility of full-time (37.5) hours
salary: £28,119 – £28,634 FTE, pro rata (depending on ISVA qualification)
Functional purpose:
CHISVA will be responsible for providing a specialist service to support children, young people and families following disclosure of child sexual abuse. You will work in a flexible and responsive way with both adults and children to provide professional, emotional and practical support that meets their individual needs throughout the criminal justice process.
We give equal priority to keeping all children and young people safe regardless of their age, disability, gender identity, race, religion, belief or sexual orientation.
We welcome applications from survivor practitioners (staff who have lived experience of sexual and/or domestic abuse). You may choose to identify as someone with lived experience in the hiring process if you feel comfortable doing so, however, this is not a requirement of the process.
This role is offered on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2026.
Key tasks and responsibilities
- Providing effective emotional support, practical support and advocacy to children, young people and safe family members following disclosure of child sexual abuse.
- Retain and maintain a high volume of children, young people and families – able to prioritize demands and respond to changing priorities with flexibility, care and empathy.
- Conduct a needs and risk assessment with children and families using a safety and support assessment. Develop individual support plans to address the client’s risks/support needs.
- Provide accurate, timely and concise electronic records.
- Enabling children, young people and vulnerable adults to access appropriate therapeutic interventions, engage with other support organizations and develop their support network.
- When necessary, provide emotional and practical support through the criminal justice process, providing accurate and impartial information, and liaising with police, CPS, registered mediators, and other CJP professionals.
- Supporting requests from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority.
- Providing information to children, young people and families regarding the impact of the trauma of sexual violence and the possibility of moving forward.
- Support children, youth and vulnerable adults to access the services they need, in partnership with safe family members.
- Ensuring equitable access for all children, young people and families in Nottinghamshire, including awareness of available resources in relation to interpreters etc.
- Consider and respond to safeguarding issues when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults, working within Nottinghamshire and City of Nottingham Child Protection Partnership policies and procedures.
- Actively engage and work within statutory and non-statutory networks to support children, young people and families alongside partner agencies such as health, social care, police and support services.
- Working within relevant legislation including Home Office ISVA guidance, Best Evidence (ABE) guidance and the Children Act and working together to protect children.
- Contributing to the development, monitoring and evaluation of Amara service.
- Participate in individual and group clinical supervision, administrative supervision and team meetings.
- Be willing to undertake relevant training as required.
