Children in Need of Defense (KIND) It is a global leader in the protection of unaccompanied and separated children who have been forcibly displaced from their countries of origin. Now, more than ever, these children need skilled, reliable legal support as they navigate the challenging and ever-changing U.S. immigration system.

We are looking for motivated attorneys who are willing to put their expertise at the service of children seeking safety and stability, ensuring that the child does not have to travel through the US immigration system alone. We are urgently recruiting lawyers to provide specialist legal services to unaccompanied children in need of legal representation through enthusiastic direct representation as well as pro bono facilitation.

Who are we looking for:

  • Attorneys with direct experience in the practice of immigration law, particularly in humanitarian immigration applications such as asylum, migrant juvenile status, U visas, and T visas.
  • Professionals with experience working with children, preferably migrant and refugee children, and/or working with vulnerable populations, survivors of abuse, human trafficking, or other trauma.
  • Applicants are bilingual in English and Spanish strongly We preferred to allow direct contact with the children we serve and their caregivers, most of whom speak Spanish.

About children in need of defense

Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is a global leader in protecting unaccompanied refugee and migrant children. Launched in 2008, KIND supports a world where every child’s rights and well-being are protected throughout their journey to safety. Since 2008, KIND has accepted more than 23,000 referrals for children seeking legal representation in their immigration proceedings. KIND has welcomed more than 41,000 course participants since its founding, and has fostered partnerships with more than 670 law firms, corporate legal departments, law schools, and bar associations across the country. KIND’s social services program ensures that migrant and refugee children – who have often experienced trauma – receive counseling, educational support, medical care and other comprehensive services. To address the root causes of child migration from Central America and strengthen the protection of their rights. For unaccompanied children, KIND advocates for policy changes and educates lawmakers, the media, and the broader public about the conditions that drive these children to flee their countries of origin. KIND supports children returning to their countries of origin by connecting them to essential support services and gender-based sponsors Violence prevention programs in Central America to protect children in countries of origin and transit. KIND also draws on its experience in protecting unaccompanied children to encourage the development of pro bono initiatives across Europe in partnership with European NGOs.
