The Department of Linguistics at the University of Southern Maine invites applications for a full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the fall of 2026.

The successful applicant will be prepared to take on a combination of ASL/English interpretation courses at the college level, and to coordinate the ASL/English language interpretation program. As coordinators, they will maintain compliance with Collegiate Commission on Interpreter Education (CCIE) accreditation including regular progress reports and re-accreditation, which will be supported by administrative staff. The Coordinator will support the maintenance of the program vision, which includes a focus on professional peer training for both deaf and hearing interpreters, as well as a commitment to a model-based curriculum. The ASL/English Interpretation Program Coordinator will work directly with the ASL Program Coordinator.

The faculty position also includes advising and mentoring students, supervising probation placements and practicum hours, maintaining relationships with community stakeholders, recommending and mentoring part-time instructors to translate courses, and contributing to the organization of the annual Maine Deaf Film Festival, among other things.

The Department of Linguistics is an undergraduate program within the Faculty of Science, Technology and Health. Linguistics students can specialize in general linguistics or in a number of concentrations. We also offer many minors.

Compensation: $71,096.00 plus benefits
