Assistant Professor of Art Education (Tenure Track, F0185A) Old Dominion University
The Department of Art at Old Dominion University invites applications for a 10-month annual position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin… July 25, 2026. This is a fixed appointment with a teaching load of 2/3. We are specifically looking for an Assistant Professor specializing in Contemporary art education for K-12 public schools For this track position. In addition to Foundations and Teaching Methods courses, this assistant professor will engage in research and work with the College of Education and public school districts to advise students and manage, facilitate, and supervise practicum and student teaching experiences, among other service activities. We welcome candidates whose life experience, creative practices, research, and/or teaching focus on historically underrepresented communities or marginalized practices in a way that will enhance the learning experiences of our diverse student body.
Duties and responsibilities: This is a 2/3 full-time teaching load with course discounts provided for student internships Supervision. Core responsibilities will include:
Teach regularly scheduled classes that may include foundations of art education, elementary and/or secondary methods, and curriculum and instruction.
Coordinate, supervise, and manage student teaching observations, practicums, and student internships.
Serve as a liaison between Old Dominion University Art Department, Darden College of Education and local school districts.
Implement sequential objectives in lesson planning, writing, and studio practice throughout the art education core curriculum sequence
The successful candidate will work with the Art Department Chair and Art Education Program Director to align curricular goals and oversee teacher supervision consistent with state and national accreditation standards.
Advise students, maintain a strong research program, and perform departmental service responsibilities.
