The Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the University of Southampton welcomes applications for a postdoctoral position in the field of active thermography for the evaluation of composite materials and structures. The research will be conducted within the Department’s Computational Engineering and Design group, on a fixed-term contract – full-time for 20 months.

The role

The role is located within an industry-funded research project dealing with non-destructive evaluation of vehicles, where you will need to evaluate all active thermography methods for vehicle inspection, develop a database of raw and processed thermal images for different defect – vehicle geometries, test thermal image processing tools and techniques (all applicable to vehicles) to improve defect detection, and support the automation of active thermography inspection (integration robots). Armed with the selected active thermal imaging approach), support demonstrations – experiments within selected industrial environments within the project.

About you

You will hold a PhD or equivalent degree and will already demonstrate the potential for research excellence in postdoctoral activity.
