The role

The University of Bristol is looking for a Student Visa Compliance Officer to join our dedicated Student Visas team. In this key role, you will apply your expertise in UK immigration legislation to manage compliance risks, analyze student data, and contribute to a high-quality student experience. Working closely with colleagues across the University, you will help shape policy, support preparations for UKVI audits and ensure the institution continues to fulfill its student welfare duties.

This is a dynamic and impactful role where your attention to detail, analytical mindset and ability to interpret complex regulations will directly contribute to the success and integrity of our compliance processes.

What will you do?

• You will be responsible for monitoring and analyzing student data to identify and address compliance risks, and make timely and informed decisions that support institutional commitments and student success.
• You will provide expert interpretation of regulations relating to complex immigration matters for staff and students, helping to apply UKVI rules in a clear and practical way.
• Your work will include maintaining accurate records and supporting the delivery of student document checks. You will also contribute to the University’s preparedness for UKVI audits, including preparing documentation and representing the institution in discussions with auditors.
• You will work closely with colleagues across schools, colleges and professional services to resolve individual cases and improve institutional processes.
• You will help develop and maintain internal guidance and training materials, ensuring that staff across the university understand their responsibilities and have the tools they need to fulfill them.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Strong understanding of UK immigration legislation and commitment to providing an excellent international student experience.
• You will be confident interpreting complex regulations and making assessments against regulatory frameworks to make fair and informed decisions.
• You will have experience working with large data sets, a keen eye for detail, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving anomalies.
• You will be a clear and diplomatic communicator, able to explain complex rules to diverse audiences and collaborate effectively across teams.
• You will be comfortable managing competing priorities, balancing urgent social work with long-term projects and policy development. If you are analytical, proactive and passionate about continuous improvement in the regulatory environment, we would like to hear from you.
