Student Communications Officer, Oxford Brookes University

This role is being advertised on a full or part time basis.

The role

Reporting to the Vice President of Communications – Students and Staff, you will be an essential part of our dynamic communications team. This role is responsible for providing key communications to the university’s 18,000 students. You will create engaging, comprehensive and informative content across a wide range of channels and play a central role in advising colleagues across the University on how best to engage with our diverse student body.

About the team

The Communications Team provides essential leadership and advice on internal and external communications for the entire University. As part of the Marketing, Recruitment and Engagement Department, we are confident and ambitious, working to build the university’s image and make every connection count. We are passionate about ensuring our communications are heard by our students, staff and alumni against the backdrop of an incredibly busy digital world.

What will I do?

  • Develop and coordinate key student communication channels, including e-newsletters, digital displays, physical assets, and emails.
  • Create engaging content for social media and other digital platforms as part of wider campaigns.
  • Provide expert advice to colleagues across the university on student communication best practices.
  • Coordinate campaigns to communicate key messages on topics such as the National Student Survey (NSS) and student experience initiatives.
  • Liaise closely with the Students’ Union (Brooks Union) to ensure a unified approach to student communications.
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of our student communications and channels.

What skills do I need?

  • Degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven experience delivering student or internal communications in a large, complex organisation.
  • Demonstrable experience creating and curating engaging content across various channels.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to advise and collaborate with a wide range of colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills to coordinate multiple campaigns and projects simultaneously.
  • Understand how to measure and evaluate communication campaigns.

About the site

This is an agile hands-on role based primarily at our Headington campus, with options for home duties. You will be based in the Buckley Building, located on our vibrant campus, one mile from the center of Oxford. Our flexible working approach means you’ll have the flexibility to balance your time between home and the office, with a focus on delivering excellent work wherever you are.
