Senior Postdoctoral Researcher in Statistical Machine Learning and Deep Generative Modeling at the University of Oxford
location: Old Road Campus, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7LF Additional location: Department of Statistics, 24-29 St Giles’, Oxford, OX1 3LB
salary: Research Grade 8: Salary range between £49,119 – £50,552 per annum. This includes the Oxford University Pension weight of £1,730 per annum.
We are seeking to appoint a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher in Statistical Machine Learning and Deep Generative Modeling to apply and develop cutting-edge deep generative probabilistic models including conditional diffusion and flow matching models for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) synthesis and predictive analysis for the Novartis Oxford Collaboration for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine. The collaboration focuses on improving our understanding of MS progression and how treatment can affect disease progression.
This work will focus on the unique Novartis Oxford MS (NO.MS) dataset, the largest and most comprehensive dataset on multiple sclerosis (MS), which includes longitudinal data from more than 40,000 individuals, some of whom have been tracked for more than a decade.
You will be responsible for developing and applying state-of-the-art deep probabilistic generative models, including conditional diffusion and flow matching methods, to generate advanced MRI modalities from traditional clinical scans. You will also develop predictive models capable of describing disease progression and predicting individual outcomes in MS under exposure to different treatments. You will contribute to the delivery of collaborative projects, working closely with clinicians, imaging experts and computational scientists across the Oxford-Novartis AI in Medicine collaboration.
You must have a PhD/PhD in statistics, statistical machine learning, deep generative modeling, or a closely related field, along with relevant post-doctoral research experience. You will bring extensive experience in developing and applying conditional diffusion models, flow matching techniques, or related generative methods, as well as experience working with probabilistic (Bayesian) methods and statistical modeling. Strong writing and programming skills are essential. A proven record of publishing in high-quality journals and presenting at scientific meetings will be required, demonstrating your ability to lead and present impactful research.
Applications for this vacancy must be submitted online through the above ‘Advance’ button and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement should explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the job using examples of your skills and experience. Please limit your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.
This position is offered full-time on a fixed-term contract until August 31, 2027 and is funded by Novartis.
Only applications received before 12 noon on Monday 27 October 2025 will be considered. Please quote 182346On all correspondence.
