Lecturer in Automotive Engineering (Future Vehicle Technologies) at Aston University

location: Aston University’s main campus

Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer in Automotive Engineering (Future Vehicle Technologies) in the Department of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering at Aston University. Successful candidates are expected to be active in research. We are particularly keen to hear from applicants who have research interests in hybrid and fully electric drive systems, and have an established or developing reputation in powertrain integration and control, energy management, high-speed electric motors, autonomous vehicles, automotive fuel cells, carbon neutral fuels (hydrogen and e-fuels), and/or real-world driving emissions testing. (RDE).

You must also demonstrate an emphasis on student-centered teaching with experience and enthusiasm for lecture topics related to automotive mechatronics systems, with experience in relevant laboratory practices.

You must have a first degree and PhD degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Control Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related discipline. We also expect applicants to have a formal teaching qualification such as a PGCHE and/or have achieved an FHEA or above or be willing to achieve this once on post. It is recommended that applicants be familiar with Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) software such as Blackboard or Moodle.

As the successful applicant, you will be expected to develop teaching materials, teach and assess students using a variety of formats including lectures, whole-class tutorials and individual projects. A proven and effective track record of learning and teaching using these modes is essential, as is a record of positive student feedback.

In addition, you will be expected to play a key role in the running of the department including acting as a personal tutor for students, participating in open days, and assisting with outreach activities. Where appropriate, there will also be the opportunity to participate in or lead in key operational areas.
