Laboratory Assistant at the University of Stirling
The School of Psychology, School of Natural Sciences, is offering a part-time, fixed-term Laboratory Assistant position to work with Dr Anna Boback on an Economic and Social Research Council-funded project ‘Improving eyewitness accuracy using 3D interactive profiling’.
Project summary/objectives
Accurate witness identification (ID) is a cornerstone of police and national security investigations. However, the technology used to display lineups has not changed radically over the past century. All over the world, police provide witnesses with a series of photographs or 2D videos. Eyewitnesses often make mistakes in identification tests, as analyzes of real-world police identification shows reveal that witnesses often identify known innocent suspects as the perpetrators. Eyewitness errors can have serious consequences, and may be involved in approximately 70% of wrongful convictions. This project applies recent advances in 3D imaging technology and virtual reality (VR) to increase witness ID accuracy.
